Summary
“A Man Called Ove and the End of a Story” Present tense. This chapter begins with an echo of events in the very first chapter: Ove confronting a young, and increasingly nervous, sales associate as he tries to buy an I-pad. The scene continues with Jimmy’s intervention, calming both the salesclerk and Ove and ensuring the purchase gets made. That night, Ove and Jimmy take the gift to the birthday party at Parvaneh and Patrick’s, where the girl who is now an eight year old accepts it gratefully and calls Ove “Granddad”. Ove, shocked and moved, is very still for a long time. Parvaneh asks if he’s all right, and he says he is. He prepares to leave, and Parvaneh requests a second driving lesson.
