Chapters 10 through 12 Summary and Analysis

In chapter ten, the family ended each day with Bible time, a time when Jim Bob read a Bible passage and the family discussed the meaning. The time was also used to discuss the day's events and share praises for each other. Someone might, for example, say that one of the boys had helped his brother take out the trash, even though it wasn't his job and he hadn't been asked to help. They might also thank those who had helped prepare meals that day, tell funny stories or talk about the name for a new baby. Jim Bob said he often kept children guessing about events for upcoming days.

Jim Bob said he also uses the Bible time to discuss life lessons, relating to the children that his family was very poor and had lost their home. Later...
