Chapters 4 through 6 Summary and Analysis
In chapter four, Josie Broolyn Duggar weighed twenty-two ounces when she was born on December 9. She was three and a half months premature. Michelle was allowed to briefly touch Josie's hand as the baby was wheeled away, but the Duggars were allowed no other contact because Josie's skin was so thin that touch caused her an agony of pain. Josie was touched only as much as was absolutely necessary for the first forty days of her life. Meanwhile, Michelle and Jim Bob continued to worry about Jordyn, just about to celebrate her first birthday, because of her continued breathing problems. On December 14, the family returned from El Salvador and drove the following day to Little Rock to see Michelle and the new baby.
