Summary

Chapter 4: Salvation – Seeking greater safety, Saroo crossed the river for the first time since arriving in Calcutta. On the other side of the river, he found quieter streets and neighborhoods, and knew he had to be more suspicious of people, but also had to be on the lookout for a person who could genuinely help him. Saroo is taken in by a young woman and her son who is about Saroo’s age. When Saroo refused to obey the woman, she threw a rock at him and left him after doing laundry in the river. A kind teenager then brought Saroo to the police, where Saroo is put into a cell. (Only later would Saroo realize his decision to trust the teenager saved his life.)
