Summary
In Chapter 21, Dan visits the Bobs’ residence to spend time with Edith and Ronnie (who are Titch and Irene’s children, Dan’s grandchildren.) Dan shows the children how to use explosives to catch fish. A police officer arrives and tells Dan to cease. Dan then says that if Irene is going to do the Redex Trial, she should bring explosives as a tool to help clear difficult paths. In Chapter 22, Bachhuber spends time researching the Redex Trial route and its various terrains. Much of the trail goes through land that was stolen from indigenous peoples long ago by the Australian government. Bachhuber thinks about the historical oppression of the Aboriginal peoples. The narration reveals that his wife gave birth to an Aboriginal child, leading Bachhuber to believe that she had committed infidelity with an Aboriginal man, so Bachhuber left her...
