Lydia Chass

Lydia Chass is the 17-year-old narrator and protagonist of the novel. Lydia is the only daughter of Brent Chass, who is the descendant of one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in all of Henley. She lives with her father and mother, who is obsessed with her disabled rescue cat, Uneven Steven. Lydia is an intelligent and ambitious young woman who wants to go to an Ivy League school to study journalism so she can get out of Henley and make a name for herself.

Lydia excels in school, devotes hours to church and community service, and has the whole town convinced that she is the perfect girl.
