Summary

Chapter 5.1 moves ahead a few more years. Willem has continued to gain prominence as a film actor, and he is now quite famous. He has been able to secure more prestigious roles and even some fairly prestigious acting awards. He is often recognized in public by strangers. He realized his fame in his late thirties, but by his mid-forties, he grew used to it. Willem and Jude have continued to be very close friends. After Jude’s suicide attempt, and after he is released from the hospital, Willem temporarily moves in with Jude to help take care of him. Jude begins to open by to Willem, and Jude even talks to Willem about some of the instances of physical violence that he endured at the monastery. Jude still refuses to see a therapist.
