Summary
In Chapter 5, at breakfast, Horowitz told Hawthorne about all the strange things he had experienced since they were at the airport, including the missing tip and the argument between Marc and Kathryn. Hawthorne responded that because no one had been killed, none of those things mattered to him.
Horowitz attended Maïssa’s performance. He noted the delivery of her work was terrible. She did not seem to understand what she was saying when she read the poems in French. She ended with a poem Horowitz thought he recognized as being written by another poet.
After the performance, Horowitz saw the man from the airport in the crowd. Horowitz introduced himself, but the man claimed he had not been at the airport and did not know Maïssa. Horowitz understood that he did not want to be recognized.
