Catherine Wheel
Catherine Wheel is one of the main characters of the novel. She is a police detective and has been on the force for roughly 27 years. When she gets the call about the unidentified body on the beach, Catherine and her partner Lamar Adams begin working with the witness Arman Bajalan. In Chapter 12, she assures Arman that because she has been a cop for more than half her life and on homicide “for damn near twenty,” she is confident that she will solve the case and protect him in the process (129). She admits that although “Sometimes there’s failure,” she is “a good detective” and takes her responsibility to Arman, Mr. Peters, and the dead man seriously (130).
