This is the overall setting where most of the novel takes place. The events occur in 1818, which is an important part of the settings. Kitty notes the grime and garbage upon her arrival, but she also considers the city “magnificent.” There are a lot of specific settings, including the homes where the balls are held during the social season. Kitty and Cecily visit some art museums and the library, and they often walk in Hyde Park.
The Netley Cottage
This is where Kitty lives with her four sisters. It is located in Biddington, Dorsetshire. The cottage is bare because Kitty has been forced to sell off most of their possessions in order to pay the mortgage. The cottage is important because it is home to the Talbot sisters, and Kitty is willing to marry someone she does not love in order to keep it.
