Summary
In Chapter 35, James orders his driver Lawrence to take them to Dorothy's house. A few minutes later, Lawrence says James should come out as they encounter Hinsley, Archie, and Kitty outside Dorothy's house. James and Kitty glare at each other, each demanding an explanation. They go inside and the stories come out. Cecily runs out of the room in tears. Archie apologizes, but James says he is to blame for having been absent and inattentive. Hinsley leaves, and Archie waits in James's carriage, giving James and Kitty a moment to talk. Kitty is very upset. When James asks if she is alright, she lists the things that are wrong, including that she did not notice Cecily's situation and still has financial problems.
