Summary

In Chapter 16, Kitty, Cecily, and Dorothy attend Lady Montagu's ball. Kitty and Cecily are in awe of the décor and guests, but Kitty is very aware that they are being watched and judged. No one talks to them until Lady Radcliffe acknowledges them and begins to introduce them to others. Archie is annoyed that Kitty shows no interest in his story about the near robbery. He is annoyed again when James has already heard the details from their mother. Kitty keeps scanning the room for wealthy, eligible men and quickly finds an excuse to leave.
