Summary

In Chapter 4, Kitty goes for a walk in Hyde Park with Cecily. Kitty thinks about her parents, probably walking in this park though never in the light of day. Kitty notices Archie and Amelia de Lacy walking toward them. Cecily says she knows Amelia from the school she attended. Kitty is annoyed that Cecily did not mention it when they saw the family at the theater. She pretends to trip while dropping her shoe and feigns a twisted ankle. Archie rushes to give Kitty her shoe as Cecily – who does not realize this is all an act – helps steady Kitty. Amelia recognizes Cecily and they introduce Kitty and Archie. Amelia insists they accompany Kitty and Cecily home in their carriage, parked nearby. Kitty calls Archie “my hero,” says he has the bearing of a soldier, and pays close attention as he talks. By...
