Summary

The narrative transitions to the winter of 1945. Evelyn’s mother helps take care of Evelyn as she progresses through the final trimester of her pregnancy. Evelyn’s mother has told Evelyn’s father about Evelyn’s pregnancy, and Father has apparently decided to not to speak to Evelyn about the pregnancy. Evelyn receives a letter from Renard saying that he will be coming home soon. Evelyn has not told Renard about the pregnancy, as she feared that he would decide to leave her. The narrative then transitions to the winter of 1987. Jackie talks to her mother Evelyn in person, and Evelyn says that she and Renard will respect Jackie’s decision to accept Terry back into her life.
