Kinsey Millhone

Kinsey Millhone is the main character, or protagonist of the novel, A is for Alibi. She is a private investigator working independently in Santa Teresa, California, using two rooms in California Fidelity Insurance's building rent free in return for working pro-bono on some of their cases. She has been married twice, divorced twice, has no children, no pets, and no plants. Kinsey lives a very independent life. Though she has a lot of friends, she has some issues with developing close relationships with people, especially men. Her work, in many ways, is her life. Through her work, she becomes involved in the very intimate details of the lives of other people without having to invest emotionally in the relationships.
