Perspective
The book is written by Dave Eggers, who is the first-person narrator. The book is about Dave's family and his life during his twenties. Dave's parents died within five weeks of each other, leaving him and his older siblings in charge of their seven year old brother. Dave takes physical custody of his brother so that his sister can attend law school and his brother can pursue his career. The book begins with the death of Dave's mother and continues through the following seven years in which Dave makes the adjustment from college student to guardian and magazine publisher. Due to the fact that this book is mostly autobiographical, Dave's perspective is highly personal.
