Teddy (Edward) Beresford Todd
Teddy is the main character in "A God in Ruins." He is the "god" referred to in the title. The reader gets a glimpse of him as a child when he spent time with his Aunt Izzie in 1925. As a child, Teddy seemed fairly dry, both in humor and in personality. He was close with his sisters, especially Ursula, and was not at all close with his two brothers, one younger and one older.
Teddy did not like monotony. Rather, he craved adventure. As an adult, Teddy traveled to various countries around the world for the adventure of it. He also join the armed forces in the war against Germany almost immediately after the then-Prime Minister declared Britain's involvement in the war. Teddy's actions suggest the character of a chivalrous man who is loyal to his country. He is disgusted by Germany's crimes against humanity...
