Lila

Lila is a young woman capable of magic, but she is stranded at sea when the novel begins. Lila’s husband has been killed, and her ship stolen when she is rescued by Emery and the Night Spire crew. Lila and Emery befriend one another, with Emery teaching Lila how to use magic. Lila is impulsive and not always responsible with her use of magic.

Lila decides to enter the Element Games in London by posing as the competitor Elsor. hopes to win the tournament and its monetary prize for the sake of a stable future. She also wants to see Kell again. Lila and Kell meet up during the course of the tournament, during which time they kiss and Kell warns her about responsible use of magic. Lila ignores him, telling him she only feels alive when close to death. She does not yet understand she needs...
