Summary

In Part 5, Chapter 1, Both Emery and Lila have been drinking. Lila keeps asking him questions about the Games, including about the Veskans and their fighting style. Emery explains that Arnesians have the Isle as a source of magic; the Veskans have their mountains; and Faroans simply believe magic is everywhere. They consider magic to come from the Earth, Emery explains. They also consider themselves to be a blessed race that can draw on magic wherever they go. Emery tells Lila she has a problem with trust, and Lila agrees. Emery apologizes to Lila for whoever hurt her so badly. Lila begins to argue about magic being the pleasure she needs in life when Emery kisses her. They begin to kiss passionately, but Emery asks Lila what she is running from, breaking the mood. Lila is angered and storms out.
