Summary
A funeral is held for Cassie and Catherine is chosen to be one of the twelve girls in the funeral. They are dressed in white carrying bouquets of wildflowers. Even the men shed tears. After the funeral, Mammann comments she does not understand how the family can be so resigned and accepting of the death. Catherine wonders how it is Cassie was alive just a week before. Mrs. Shipman tells Catherine on the morning that Cassie died, her face was completely peaceful. In the two chapters, Catherine tries to come to peace with Cassie's death. Cassie's older brother comes to visit while Catherine is drawing and adds a mouse on top of her drawings.
