Summary

In Chapter Ten, Chloe remembers attending the Crawfish Festival in May of 1999. She had 12, and her brother had been 15. He was a very popular boy with lots of friends, but he paused hanging out with them to come talk to Chloe. Lena approached them both and offered them sips of her vodka. She showed off her bellybutton ring to Chloe, who admired the glow-in-the-dark firefly charm. Chloe saw her father across the way, staring at Lena. Lena told Cooper he should pick her up in his car sometime, then left, and this seemed to upset Cooper. Months later, Chloe found Lena’s firefly charm in her father’s closet.

In Chapter 11, Chloe leaves the cemetery after handing over the earring to a police officer. She feels as if she were being watched. She drives to her office and takes an Ativan to calm...
