Summary
Chapter 8. While Jack is in Los Angeles visiting his friend, Robert Stack, Nate has his car. Nate and Miriam go to a movie and then to L’Omelette. While at L’Omelette, Nate overhears Jack’s girlfriend complaining that Jack must have lied to her about being out of town because she saw his car. Nate sets her straight.
Chapter 9. Nate goes to Jack’s little cottage that he rents. Jack sleeps on a board because he has back problems. They share a drink and talk about their family’s expectations. Jack tells Nate that his brother, Joe, is the crown prince of the family so his father does not have high expectations for him despite the fact that his father gave a copy of his book to the Queen of England.
