Summary
In Chapter 26, inside Saul’s chalet, Gamache smelled the unusual burning smell and wondered if an electrical fire was starting. When he asked Saul about the smell, Saul admitted he had thrown some outdated film into the fire. Gamache seemed to look into Saul as he told him that might not have been a good idea. Saul was eager to confess and get on with his life. He felt as if he should get on his knees like he did when he went to confession as a young boy but fought the urge. He told Gamache and Beauvoir that he and CC had been having an affair. He added that he knew CC had bought the house in Three Pines for some reason. He suspected she was motivated by money.
