Summary

In Chapter 18, back at the temporary headquarters, Gamache talked to Nichol. Even though she annoyed him, he knew he had been wrong in the way he treated her. He started by apologizing for ignoring her. She was overjoyed when Gamache said he was giving her another chance. She was pleased Gamache really believed she had changed but referred to him as an “asshole” (184) in her mind.

Beauvoir warned Gamache he was making a mistake by letting Nichol back on their team before their attention turned back to the investigation. When Lacoste had contacted the Paris Sûreté requesting information about CC’s parents, she had gotten back a reply that warned her against bothering them with hoaxes.
