Summary

Chapter 16 opens with Shane catching up with CJ and Molly. He tries to get CJ to go back home with him by using Molly as a hostage, but CJ tricks him and Molly and CJ get away. They drive and reach California. They are at the beach when a man speaks to her. He leaves when she makes it obvious that she does not want to talk to him. They either sleep in the car or outside. Once rainy night, they are about to go to sleep in the car when a strange man comes towards them.

Chapter 17 opens with the strange man coming to the car and Molly defending CJ. CJ is telling Molly what a good dog she is when the man comes back and breaks her car window. He leaves, but before he does, he waves his finger at Molly...
