Part 3, Chapter 3 Summary
Hugh hosts an extravagant wedding for his sister Dottie, who is now the Viscountess of Ipswich. He has steered the bank through the immediate financial crisis and is hoping to have the problem solved within a year. The lavish spending and big dowry should instill confidence in the bank. The only guest that does not look happy is Augusta.
Hugh is called to the phone and learns that there is a war taking place in Cordova. The Mirandas have attacked and President Garcia has fled the country. Hugh tells Mulberry to keep him informed. The bank is facing financial ruin since nobody will buy bonds or receive interest from a country where there is a civil war. The broker tells Hugh that it will probably be five or six weeks before the market begins to stabilize.
