Summary

In Chapter 17, it is apparent that Rhysand feels guilty because he could not protect his entire court. He says he would have done anything to continue to protect the people of Velaris. He became Amarantha's whore as part of his overall plan, and he controlled the minds of anyone she captured who might know about Velaris or any of his inner circle. He says he does not care what everyone else thinks, as long as his family and Velaris are safe. That night, Rhysand wakes Fayre from a nightmare. She has grown flaming claws and ripped the bed to shreds. When she vomits, he holds her hair and soothes her. Fayre knows the claws are inherited from Tamlin, and Rhysand says the flames are from the Autumn Court.
