Chicago

Sissy was raised in Chicago, Illinois. While the hope was that her family could escape some racism being in a larger city, they are still the victims of prejudices. Because she was raised in the city, Sissy feels more comfortable in Chicago where there is noise than she does in North Dakota, her ancestral home. She visits many local landmarks in Chicago with her family including Lincoln Park and the Field Museum of Natural History. At Lincoln Park, her mother teaches her that President Lincoln did some very good things for the citizens of the United States, but he was also responsible for the deaths of many of their people.
