Summary

Jack, Lillian’s father, comes home and Lillian tells him that she and Blanche made a graveyard for birds. She refused to call her father Dad. Blanche tells Lillian that they should bury Jack as well. They make a little version of their father out of mud and bury him as Blanche rewords the “Our Father '' to describe how bad their father is. Jack tells Lillian that making a bird graveyard is something his sister would have done, and he begins to cry. Jack felt her haunting him for years after that.

School is about to start. Sister Anne is the only one they like, and Lillian considers that maybe this massacre got them “in trouble with the mission school god” because they see Jack coming over with a shotgun (75). He is yelling that nobody can make...
