Chapters 15 through 22 Summary
In chapter fifteen, the day following the party at the carnival is Hattie's real birthday, and there's a party with Mom, Dad, Nana, Papa, Cookie, Miss Hagerty and Mr. Penny. Adam reaches out and grabs the rose off Hattie's cake, which makes Nana chastise him. Hattie says she wants Adam to remain, but he stomps out of the house.
Nana and Papa give a dinner party two times each year. Hattie notes that the invitation is hanging on the kitchen wall. Hattie thinks about the night and knows that she and Adam won't be invited. She considers staying at home to read the books she got for her birthday and knows that Adam will also have to spend the evening in his room.
