Summary
The police arrested the overdressed stranger and the governor pardons Lemuel. However, the combination of removing all his teeth and taking cold showers gave him pneumonia. He recovers and sees Mr. "Shagpoke" Whipple, the man who sent him on this quest, in the prison. Lemuel is surprised to see him and Mr. Whipple tells him his investors sent him to jail when his bank went under. In a characteristic speech, he tells Lemuel he blames it not on the investors but on the Jewish international bankers and Wall Street communists. He claims these forces will be the downfall of the American Spirit if they are not stopped.
Lemuel asks him about his mother and Mr. Whipple tells him her house was foreclosed, cow seized and she was last seen wandering off into the woods. Mr. Whipple tries to cheer Lemuel by telling him...
