Kingsbridge Priory
The Kingsbridge Priory represents both wealth and loss of power to most Kingsbridge characters. The Priory is the Willard’s chance to get their fortune back after losing everything in the French attack on Calais. This ambition, however, makes them lose everything when Sir Reginald uses his power in the Catholic church to force Alice to pay back a loan and interest that he promised her. For the Fitzgeralds, the Priory is the source of their palace and all of their wealth, which is immediately lost when Elizabeth takes over England. For Margery, it represents an unhappy marriage and rape at the hands of her father-in-law. Lastly, the church sees the priory as a symbol of wealth and does everything it can to get the money back when Bloody Mary returns to power. Whoever controls the Priory holds the wealth in Kingsbridge.
