Summary

Barney is on the Caribbean islands in the summer of 1563 where he is still the master gunner on the Hawk. Three years had passed; and, while he longed to go home, he was not angry. Life at sea was exciting for him, and it is only possible because of the sad collapse of his family business. However, he hates that he is surrounded by only men, and he misses flirting with women. The Hawk had circled from Seville to the Canary islands for trade, and they had never been involved in a banner. They had lost 10 people from accidents or disease. However, now Captain Bacon had begun to participate in the slave trade. He promised they would return home after a single trip to the African coast.
