Summary
Alison worries that Francis will die, leaving Mary the widow of a former king and losing them social status she had as queen of France. Francis health is uncertain as the Guise family battled with the Bourbons and the Montmorency’s for power. Caterina calls for Alison and asks her to take a message to Pierre. Alison, who is sad that Pierre is married, agrees. Caterina says she needs to see the Guise Dukes in one hour. If Pierre asks what about, Alison is to say that she does not know. Alison leaves, wondering what Caterina is planning. She had sided with the Guises after Henri’s death, but the Guises had ignored her and relying on Mary for power. Alison knows that Caterina would not accept their help so easily a second time. Alison finds Pierre in Cardinal Charles’ parlor...
