Chapter 40, Catelyn Summary

Catelyn Stark is on her way back to Riverrun with her party, including Brienne Tarth. They meet riders, some of Robb's allies, who tell Catelyn about Robb's victories and that Tywin has left Harrenhal. Robb and his allies are invading and raiding many places in the Westerlands. They were able to get around the Golden Tooth, an enemy castle, with the help of Grey Wind, Robb's direwolf. Catelyn's brother, Edmure, has been left in charge of Riverrun. Later on, Brienne comes to Catelyn in private and asks permission to find and kill Stannis Baratheon. Catelyn wants Brienne to stay with her where she is needed and it is safe. Brienne decides to stay and serve Catelyn. They arrive back at Riverrun and Catelyn discovers her brother wants to attack Tywin Lannister's army. Edmure informs her that Ser Cortnay is asking for...
