Racial equality vs Racial reality

African Americans have been fighting for equality since the days of slavery and segregation. While there have been many positive steps taken in this direction, the racial reality is that it can take very little to undermine all the progress made. One such incident in our recent history is the Rodney King affair. Another is depicted in this story. Jerohm Reese is a career criminal who happens to be African American. During a car jacking, Reese kills Michael Mullen and leaves in his car. He is arrested not long afterward when a fingerprint of his is identified, but the District Attorney is forced to release him as a result of a lack of evidence.
