Summary

Charlie began working several part time jobs. He used the money to help Barbara through medical school. He was also earning money from Chippin' In.

Jake flew to Deer Park again to try convincing Marcy "that her father . . . had turned his life around and deserved her forgiveness" (273). She seemed more amenable to Jake this time.

After their meeting, Jake worried that Marcy would change her mind about visiting Charlie. He realized that everyone complained about how much she changed, while also complaining about how little Charlie (275).

Marcy and Charlie shared an emotional reunion at the airport. Jake observed them.

Once things were settled in Illinois, Jake prepared to leave. Barbara thanked him for all his help and support. It was the kindest she had ever been to him. He hugged her and cried.
