Summary

In Chapter 18, Bat’s mother compromised and let him wear the kit in the sling while he ate dinner that night. As they ate, Bat told his family that skunks were omnivorous, meaning that they ate everything. Janie criticized Bat for having told them that before. Bat indicated that he thought everything about animals was interesting, Janie disagreed. She said theater was interesting.

Janie told their mother that she had decided she was going to audition for the part of the Queen instead of Alice in their school play. She explained she had changed her mind because all Alice did was whine. Bat said he thought it would be a good part for Janie because she was good at whining. Their mother warned Bat to be nice, but Bat argued he had complimented Janie. Their mother explained it was not a good compliment...
