Summary
This section begins the new part “The Embrace: March 2006 - March 2010” and includes the chapters “Autoimmune,” “Alone,” “Aftershock,” and “Hatefuge.” “Autoimmune” starts from Naomi’s third person perspective as she waits for the news about Luther Dunphy’s death. She is in Ann Arbor while her brother is in Washington, but they are on the phone together waiting for the news. Naomi calls this “post-family” life as Darren has dropped out of college to pursue his graphic novels. Naomi cannot move on from her father’s death and has started to amass folders of notes and interviews. She has tried to write a book but has failed thus far, feeling she cannot write it while Luther is alive.
