Grief
Miles spends two years grieving for his wife after she is killed in a hit and run accident. Missy was Miles' high school sweetheart and the only woman he imagined himself loving. The night Missy was killed, she and Miles had a fight and she left after Miles said some pretty mean things. When Miles learned of Missy's death, he began to imagine a drunk who might not even be aware that he hit her or that she was targeted by some of Miles' enemies through his job as a sheriff's deputy. Miles began an investigation of his own into the death of his wife, following in the footsteps of the highway patrol in an attempt to learn the truth. However, Miles never does.
