Chapter 22, 23 & 24 Summary

Major Joppolo receives a letter from Cacopardo about his ship with sulphur that he wants to sell to profit with Adano. In order to get the ship through, Joppolo calls Livingston again. Livingston is not terribly keen on Joppolo since he doesn't come from the same background as him, but after Joppolo butters him up, he mentions the ship with sulphur and Livingston even offers for him to come over to share a Scotch sometime.

Meanwhile, Lord Runcin has asked some of his colleagues to look into getting a bell for Adano. The request is immediately shot down.

Joppolo is also acting as a judge to the town of Adano. Typically, the offenses are small, but everyone in town comes because they think that Joppolo is able to make the truth seem beautiful. After the usual small discretions, Gargano brings forth Errante on...
