Summary
Darcy wakes up in the backyard studio where she has moved while Tom renovates the house. She reflects on the newfound awkwardness within their relationship after her proposition when she goes to wake him up in his tent. Darcy walks through the empty house, touching the wallpaper and wishing that she could keep the house the same forever. Tom’s crew arrives, and Darcy offers to make coffee but Tom tells her that they need to begin working. She offers to help, but he tells her that she is his client and asks her to move out of the way. Darcy addresses his crew and tells them that she wants to be treated like a member of the team because this is her grandmother’s house. They all then “clomp past Tom as a team now,” and Darcy ignores him watching her (180).
