Summary
Darcy and Tom continue talking, and she admits that she might have behaved differently toward the developer if she had known how angry Jamie would become. Tom promises that Jamie will eventually come around. Despite trusting Tom, Darcy is unsure that her relationship with her brother will be repaired given their extensive history of fighting as children. They continue talking until the tension rises and “he’s just realized that our eighteen-year friendship has finally hit a belated milestone. We’re alone” (74).
The tension between Darcy and Tom is broken by Loretta’s cat making an appearance and they begin to talk about Loretta and her legacy as a spiritual, astrologically-inclined person.
