Distance
Herzog explores the theme of distance by examining the ways in which relationships are shaped, through both emotional and physical proximity. Leo has traveled across the country only to wind up at his Grandma Vera’s apartment late in the night. Leo has created a physical distance with nearly every person in his life through his cycling adventure. However, whether he maintains an emotional space varies based on the relationship.
Vera and Leo seem to have a rather close relationship despite the 70 year age gap. The two share similar political views, as well as trust in the other person.
