Summary
Chapter 6.1 returns to timeline number one. Ferguson decides to continue on as a journalist after college. Amy continues to protest the Vietnam War as a member of the SDS. In the fall of 1966, Rose’s father, Benjamin Adler, does of a heart attack while having sex with his mistress, Didi Bryant. Benjamin’s wife Emma is not surprised about the affair, nor does she blame Benjamin, as she knows that he had strong sexual appetites, while she had virtually none. In the summer of 1967, Amy secures a summer research job in California, while Ferguson secures one in New York City. He works for a professor named Andrew Fleming, whom he warily suspects has a sexual interest in him. In July of that year, Ferguson’s parents witness the historical 1967 Newark race riots.
