Death

From the beginning of the novel Lindsay Boxer must face the inevitability of death. Lindsay begins the novel by confessing she thought of suicide at the conclusion of the bride and groom murder cases. This begins Lindsay's story about the cases and how she met Chris Raleigh. This story begins with Lindsay learning she has Negli's, a rare type of anemia in which her body has stopped making red blood cells. Lindsay knows this illness can be fatal, and she begins to worry about her own future, especially as her body appears to resist treatment. Lindsay uses Negli's as an excuse to avoid entering into a new relationship; however, Lindsay relents and falls in love, causing her to fear her own death even more.
