Part II, Chapter 24, Tengo Summary
Tengo travels to the sanatorium. His father shows no physical response to the doctors. Tengo understands his father wants to die, that he is willing himself to die. The man raised Tengo as his son when he didn't have to. Tengo therefore wants to tell him about his life. He does. He has no idea whether or not his father can hear him, but is compelled to speak anyways.
Occasionally, Nurse Omura comes in to check on the intravenous fluid bags. She has a pen in her hair. The last time she comes in, she does not have a pen in her hair. She suggests that Tengo get something to eat. When he returns, his father is gone to another room, and in his place is an air chrysalis. The chrysalis is exactly as Tengo described it...
