Summary
The next morning, with the aid of a quick response team, Mitchell was back on the wall of the fortress. Because the Taliban were firing mortars, the Americans finally agreed to give their coordinates so bombs could be dropped to help subdue the Taliban. When Mitchell opened his eyes after the explosion, the courtyard that was supposed to be destroyed was still standing. The mushroom cloud was over the position where the other Americans were. Mitchell learned later the pilot had transposed digits in the intended coordinates. Although two of the men hit by the bomb were hurt seriously, all of them survived their injuries. Mitchell called off the bombing for that day.
Information about the bomb strike was played on the news in America. Wives of team members traded calls back and forth wanting to know what the other knew...
