Each Opposing Viewpoints text contains a list of organizations to contact. These organizations—many of which are professional, public relations institutions advocating particular points of view—are important sources of information. Although the list of organizations to contact is discussed further in Chapter 4, when you will work on expanding your research, it is a good idea to examine the list early and contact those who can send you information, because it sometimes takes several weeks for individual organizations to respond. Those that are relevant to your area of research should, therefore, be written to and contacted as soon as possible. Indeed, early in the semester, a small investment of time and the cost of several stamps can pay off handsomely later on when important research information arrives by mail.
