A hypothesis, or claim, is a statement concerning the main idea or point the author is trying to prove. Each author in this anthology presents evidence in support of one of two hypotheses: either that werewolves are fact or that werewolves are fiction. The facts and evidence used by the author to support his or her hypothesis can be tested for accuracy by further investigation or research.
How does the hypothesis work in practice? Based on experience or research, an author may hypothesize that werewolves are real. The author's questions or ideas about werewolves will guide his or her further research, looking for proof that they exist. The author will look for information that will support his or her hypothesis or answer his or her questions concerning werewolves.
